Seeing Red

I walked into the store and admired the accessories.  As the sales woman began explaining the sales for the day, all I heard was boots and booties sale today.  That's all it took.  Everything else was a blur.  These red, toeless booties called my name, and when I asked for a size seven, the lady smiled and said this is the last pair.  Perfect!

Duck Boots, Snakes, and Whitby

A day that could have turned out to be a very sad, difficult day to manage, was made more than tolerable by many laughs provided by Lisa.  My trips to Philadelphia always seem to be eventful and this trip did not disappoint.  After getting dumped ten inches of snow, Philly was looking a little soggy and dreary when we stepped out of 30th street station and requested 52nd and Whitby.  We were about to embark on a day full of tears, both happy and sad. Our first stop was at my dear friend Valerie's funeral.  Being both Lisa and my first experience of a baptist funeral, it left us speechless.  What a celebration of life we had witnessed.  Following the huge ceremony, we called a cab to grab a bite before heading on our way.  After waiting an hour and forty-five minutes, I got impatient and decided I was walking back to center city (20 blocks) in a not so inviting neighborhood.  Unfortunately the west part of the city had been completely neglected of plowed streets and shoveled sidewalks, so for a grueling two hours we hiked our way back into town whining of the cold and slipping on the ice.  Throughout the two hour trek Lisa entertained me with stories of her duck boots and snake charming.  Two brief hand and toe warming stops later and we had finally made it back.  Thanks for such a memorable day.

Winter Driving

For people in Pennsylvania, you'd think that the little white stuff falling out of the sky today is going to kill them.  I am amazed every single time that it snows at how many idiots fill the streets in their vehicles.  I have several rules that I think that PA should invoke to help clear the streets.

1.  People over the age of 60 may NOT drive in snow.
2.  People scared to drive their vehicle over 45 mph may NOT drive in snow.
3.  People who are too lazy to clean off their car in order to drive correctly in snow, may NOT drive in snow.

It's really that simple folks.  It boils down to these three main rules of the road.  Either learn to control your car in a normal fashion or get out of my way.

Two For One

On Sunday I was blessed to meet Misty and her family.  Her and her husband recently welcomed two beautiful baby girls.  They lasted longer then most babies so we got a ton of great shots.  Mom and Dad are just smitten with their new bundles of joy and you can see the love they share in these photos.  Interaction shots are my favorite since you can tell so much about each family when you see them.  Congrats you guys!

I've been crazy busy this week with both personal and professional work, so in between it all, I am still working to edit my beautiful niece's pics.  Here's one that I just love.

Folklore

Recently, I found a cute little coffee shop in Elizabethtown.  It's run by a young husband and wife team that are full of fun.  The decor in the shop is functional yet very edgy.  I LOVE this place.  I photographed here for Fine Living a week ago and couldn't resist taking a fun shot of my own, just because.  So, although I'm not usually one to photograph interiors, I loved this couch and brick wall.  It caught my eye so I just had to grab a shot or two.  If anyone is ever in town, I would recommend stopping in Folklore.  Check them out on facebook! Today, they celebrated their one year anniversary!

Valerie

If anyone checked the blog yesterday, you would have noticed that I did not post like normal.  This is due to an unfortunate spur of the moment trip to Philadelphia to say a final good bye to a great friend of mine.  She has fought a long and tough battle with colon cancer and regretfully lost her battle.  I was lucky enough to have enough time to reach the hospital and see her before it was too late, for that I am more than thankful.  This sudden death has made me so much more aware of how precious our lives are.  I am so thankful that I was able to meet such a wonderful and giving person.  I thank her friends and family for welcoming me and making sure that I got a call before it was too late.  I must also be thankful for a friend that was willing to drop everything to make sure I was able to have a place to stay while there.  Although I was very rushed while I was visiting, I am truly thankful that I have such wonderful people when I need them.  I just hope that I can return all the favors.

Mariah

Today I was lucky enough to have my niece and nephew for the day.  As a typical aunt, I do swoon over them.  Of course I had to take some photos, but Ryan Jr had other plans.....so I just shot some of Mariah.  Here are three quick ones.

Warning

Today while joking with my bestie, we decided that along with the warning of hot coffee on McDonald's cups, they should, by law, have to state on all of their food, WARNING:  This food may prevent you from wearing your skinny jeans tomorrow.

Odd compliment?

Today I had a woman tell me I look like a lush....I laughed hoping she meant it in a good way and not meaning I looked like a drunk. I seem to attract interesting conversations. Never a dull moment with me. Of course I had to find the definition of lush just to make sure it could be a compliment. See below. I guess there's a first time for everything, even being described as lush.

lush 1  (lsh)
adj. lush·er, lush·est
1.
a. Having or characterized by luxuriant vegetation.
b. Abundant; plentiful. See Synonyms at profuse.
c. Extremely productive; thriving.
2.
a. Luxurious; opulent: the lush décor of a grand hotel.
b. Extremely pleasing to the senses: a lush scent; lush fruit; the lush sounds of an orchestra.
c. Voluptuous or sensual.
3. Overelaborate or extravagant: lush rhetoric.

Jonas Brother of Lancaster County

Ladies, hurry up to visit New Holland Coffee Company.  A Jonas brother stands behind their counters and brews a mean cup o' joe.  Today during a shoot at the shop I met a few wonderful people.  We laughed to tears like old friends.  Be sure to check out his real band and swing in to help support the local cafe. Thanks to Tom for being such a great sport.

Dinning Room Inspirations

So, the dinning room has been freshly painted and is waiting for finishing touches.  I have it narrowed down to a couple different lights that I like.  This is what I have in mind.  Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards the second one...

Note to Me

I've always been told that I was wise beyond what my age was, so at twenty-five I have learned a lot of lessons and experienced a few hardships.  I don't claim to know it all or to have done it all.  Today yet again my awful luck presented itself and all the while I ranted and raved about how unfair my life was, until later in the day a wonderful opportunity yet again graced me.  I couldn't help but once again be reminded that things happen for a reason, whether they be good or bad.   I may not attend church on a regular basis or know everything I should about religion, but I'd say someone has a hand in dealing cards, so if I could magically go back and deliver a message to me ten years ago, it might go something like this...

Katie,
You're about to experience some of the best days of your life.  Don't rush to grow up and live life because in ten years you'll wish you were a kid again, only worried about your date that night.  It will all work out in the end, so don't plan it out.  Learn to relax and let go.  Be kind and patient to everyone you meet, because Karma is real, very real.  Everything people say about being a grownup is true-it does suck, but it's also wonderful in the same respect.  Bad things will happen, even to good people, but trust that when one door is shut, another is waiting around the bend to open.  Don't hold grudges or gossip.  It only hardens a piece of your soul in the end.  Dream big and never stop the dreams from inspiring you, because along your life you'll hit patches that will derail you but not destroy you.  Nothing ever goes as planned, at least not for you (that doesn't change 10 years from now either), but trust me that some of the best things you will experience happen by accident, which I like to believe is fate.  Take all the things you believe now and throw them out the roof of that beautiful red convertible you just bought, because in ten years, none of those beliefs remain true.  Life changes and so do you.  Roll with the punches and believe in yourself.  Be careful what you wish for because sometimes they come true and never go to bed angry.  Your parents aren't always right, and neither are you.  Pick your battles in this world wisely.  Have fun, but most importantly, don't make decisions based on other people and their feelings.  Be yourself.  Be inspired.

Lovingly,
Kate

Tomorrow my little guy has to make the dreaded visit to the vet.  Today I found a lump on his tummy.  And, just because pictures make everything better, here's one of him looking ferocious.  Hope he feels better soon!!!!

Design on a Dime

It's finally done!  It took $0 because I used paint that we had laying around, but it cost me 2 1/2 days of long hard work.  It was definitely worth it.  I am very pleased with the organized closet.  Now, its on to the dinning room!

Getting Old

I never realized how much of a workout was involved in room renovations.  Climbing ladders and crouching to paint is really showing how old I am. haha  Tomorrow I know I am going to wake up and need someone to roll me out of bed.  I can already feel the soreness setting in.  Hopefully all the hard work pays off in the end.  Be patient :) I swear pictures are soon going to be shown.

10 Guilty Pleasures

Everyone has them.  We all just hate to admit to some of our most enjoyable things in life, because, lets face it, they can be quite embarrassing. Here's just a few of what makes life a little sweeter for me.

1. People watching
2. Internet Stalking (you know everyone does it!)
3. People magazine
4. One Tree Hill (yes, embarrassing)
5. Old School Mariah Carey
6. Pretty Woman (sucker for happy endings)
7. Shoes (and lots of them)
8. Ice cream (creamier the better)
9.  Scary movies
10. Dark chocolate

Kitchen Clean Up

Today was a very productive day in my household. I started cleaning the kitchen which somehow turned into painting my walkin pantry/storage area. Right now it looks like a complete disaster zone. Hopefully this week I'll have everything looking better than before. Before and after pictures to follow!
